The Camillus Erie Canal Park is under the umbrella of the Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation Department. It is maintained and operated by an all volunteer group. Volunteers are the back bone of the park. Over 47 years ago, a small band of volunteers armed with rakes shovels and saws began clearing the 164 acre site. Today, we have over 420 acres and 160 volunteers. Orientation Day and other training opportunities are available. A number of social events for volunteers are held throughout the year. To receive a volunteer application you may call 315-391-7020, email firstname.lastname@example.org or stop in at Sims' Store.
The Camillus Canal Society is governed by an elected Board of Directors and Executive Committee. It oversees the operations of the park. A membership in the society supports the Aqueduct Restoration project, educational programs and assists us in obtaining grants.
Mission Statement of the Camillus Canal Society is to foster and promote public interest in the preservation and restoration of the historic Erie Canal in the Town of Camillus. We foster the preservation of artifacts relating to the canal era , educate the general public on canal history, and maintain an attractive historical site that serves as a recreational area.
